MODULE 9 - FEDERALLY MANDATED TRAINING

In order for Rocky Vista University to remain in compliance with federally mandated training and to maintain a safe and inclusive campus, all students are required to complete the following training. Please complete the training prior to the established deadlines.

Title IX Training

Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 protects people from discrimination based on gender in any federally-funded, education-related programs and activities. Title IX requires educational institutions to provide students and employees with an environment safe from sexual misconduct, such as sexual harassment and sexual violence.

Rocky Vista University is committed to providing a safe and inclusive academic environment, including ensuring that all students and employees are trained on the protections afforded to them by these regulations. We have partnered with Safe Colleges to provide this mandatory training.

Notifications for COM will be send on July 17 to be due July 31st (2 weeks to complete).

HIPAA & OSHA Training

All students and employees involved in health sciences curriculum, research, and clinical courses at Rocky Vista University must complete a training course over the privacy laws which apply to the Health Professions to meet requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

HIPAA requirements mandate that a covered entity provide training to all members of its institution about the institution’s “privacy policies and procedures with respect to protected health information…as necessary and appropriate for the members of the workforce to carry out their function within the covered entity” [45 CFR 164.530(b)(1)].  This Rule defines “workforce” as “employees, volunteers, trainees, students, and other persons whose conduct, in the performance of work for a covered entity, is under the direct control of such entity, whether or not they are paid by the covered entity” [45 CFR  160.103].

All students and employees at risk of bloodborne pathogens exposure must also complete basic training and annual refresher courses in biosafety (bloodborne pathogens and universal precautions), as required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).  Under the Rule, the definition of “Trainees” includes medical students, residents, and other health professions students and employees.

Because patient contact and/or hands-on learning is a required part of the RVU’s curriculum, all RVU students must complete OSHA training. The avenue chosen for completion of this training is the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI), provided through the University of Miami.

Notifications for COM will be send on July 17 to be due July 31st (2 weeks to complete).

1) Title IX prohibits gender-based discrimination and dictates that the institution be safe from any form of sexual misconduct. It is important as it provides students with protection from potential sexual deviants and reinforces that idea that this behavior is unacceptable anywhere.

2) Title IX concerns can go to any faculty member as they are mandated reporters.

It protects individuals from discrimination at any federally or educationally funded program or activity, and requires institutions to provide a safe environment for their students, staff, and employees. It is important because this training will allow students and staff to understand their protections under this amendment. Any concerns about this training should be directed to Safe Colleges and/or RVU for specific reportings

Title IX is all about protecting against gender based discrimination in any form within an institution. We should care about it because it is an extremely important resource for people who have been victims of sexual violence and Title IX makes sure our learning environment is safe without worry of retaliation. I should contact the Title IX coordinator if I have a related concern.

Title XI enforces equal rights for all genders. Additionally title XI requires a safe environment free from sexual misconduct for the school community. I care about Title XI because it affects my learning environment. I cannot succeed in learning if I am worried about discrimination or my safety. I believe one would contact the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights regarding Title IX concerns.

Title IX is an amendment that protects people from discrimination based on gender in education programs that are federally funded. I should care about it because everyone deserves to work and study in places free from any sort of harassment and violence and I can contribute to creating such spaces through my actions and by reporting concerns when necessary. The Title IX coordinator should be contacted for addressing these concerns.

Title IX protects people from gender-based discrimination in any federally-funded education-related programs or activities. This is critical because it ensures that people are not denied opportunities based upon their gender and helps to uphold the RVU commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusivity. Students should speak with a faculty member if they feel that there is a title IX concern.

Title IX protects people from discrimination against gender, sexual violence, and sexual misconduct and is extremely pertinent and I should care about it because they are real world problems that exist everywhere and all the time and will help ensure the environment within our school is safe and inclusive to all. I would assume that if you have a concern you can contact student affairs.

Title IX is an educational amendment that seeks to protect others from discrimination based on gender; we should care about it because having this amendment in place helps us having a safe and respectful environment for everyone in education settings.

This module doesn’t say exactly who to contact, so I would likely defer to campus security for further guidance.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in any dangerous sexual harassment or abuse situation due to choice, their gender, or other factors outside their control without feeling like they’ll get in trouble or it’s their fault. Seems like the school’s Title IX office is a good place to contact.

Title IX is a federal law in the United States that prohibits sex-based discrimination in education programs or activities receiving federal financial assistance. It applies to all levels of education, from K-12 schools to colleges and universities. It covers various aspects, including admissions, athletics, curriculum, sexual harassment, and sexual assault. In practical terms, Title IX is an important piece of legislation to ensure all students, including myself, have a safe and equitable learning environment, without which we could not be expected to focus sufficiently on learning. Any concerns or reports would go through the RVU Title IX coordinator, at (720) 874-2481 or ldement@rvu.edu. There is also the Sexual Assault Advocate and Mental Health counselors, who can be reached at (720) 875-2896.
