Commencement Ceremony FAQs

COM CLASS OF 2024

What is the guest hooder policy?

Each RVUCOM graduate may select ONE Guest Hooder. Graduates who choose not to have a Guest Hooder will be hooded by a designated member of the RVU Faculty.

  • Only ONE Guest Hooder per graduate will be permitted.
  • The Guest Hooder you select can be any individual of your choice.

Guidelines for Guest Hooder Selection:

All Guest Hooders will be required to sit in a designated section separate from the graduates and other attending family and friends for the duration of the ceremony.

Be at least 18 years of age or older.

Must be fully mobile, as the ability to walk, stand, and climb stairs is essential during the Commencement Ceremony.

What if I do not have a guest hooder?

If a DO Graduate does not select a guest hooder, they will be hooded by a designated member of the RVU Faculty.

When is the guest hooder selection deadline?

You will have until February 20th to select your hooder. If you selected a guest hooder and need to change at the last minute, you can, but you will not be allowed to add a hooder after this date – NO EXCEPTIONS!

Does my hooder need to wear regalia?

All Guest Hooders must be dressed in business professional attire. Participants who possess regalia are welcome to wear it; however, please note that RVU will not be responsible for procuring or assisting in the acquisition of regalia.

Will my guest hooder be able to sit with the rest of my family?

No. The person you choose will sit with the other hooders in a different section of the venue.

Will military students be hooded in military uniforms?

No. Military uniforms will be worn underneath regalia. After military graduates are hooded, they will remove their regalia backstage before the military commissioning ceremony.

How can my family get up to date Commencement information?

Please refer them to the RVU website.

How long is the ceremony expected to last?

The RVUCOM Ceremony will last ≈ 2 hours.

Is the Commencement ceremony mandatory?

Yes. The Commencement ceremony is mandatory and is required in order to receive your diploma.

Is “Graduation Week” mandatory?

Yes, all graduates will be required to be on campus on Friday, May 17th for rehearsals, photos, etc.

What is the difference between Commencement and graduation?

Commencement is the ceremony we celebrate your accomplishments as you end your student life and begin your life as a member of the Rocky Vista University’s Alumni Association. Graduation is the act of completing all graduation requirements, e.g., ordering your cap and gown, ordering your graduation announcements, etc.

Will my family be able to take pictures of me as I cross the stage?

No. Family members will not be allowed close enough to the stage to take photos of you. However, a professional photographer will take a picture of each graduates as they receive their degree and a link will be sent to each graduate after the ceremony.

I’m graduating with honors. How do I get my honors cords?

Students who qualify for recognition at the ceremony will be given their honors cords while on campus on May 17th.

I was part of a Track. Will I receive a stole?

Graduates who were involved in a Track will receive their stole(s) while on campus on May 17th.

How do I order announcements?

Graduates will receive a link with directions on how to order regalia, diploma frames and announcements through Herff Jones. You are also welcome to order from any company you choose.

Does my family need tickets to attend graduation?

No, the venue is large enough to accommodate all of your guests. Seating is first-come, first-served.

What if someone in my family requires disability accommodations?

Please contact Erica Whatley at [email protected] if one of your guests requires an accommodation for the Commencement Ceremony. Please also state the nature of the accommodation (e.g. accessible seating, etc.)

Where do I park? Does it cost anything?

The Ellie Caulkins Opera House is located in downtown Denver at the Denver Performing Arts Complex on the corner of 14th and Curtis. Entrance to the parking garage is located on 13th and Arapahoe and can accommodate 1700 vehicles. Parking is $12.00 and can be paid via cash or card.

When will I receive my diploma?

Diplomas will be handed out after the ceremony.

I want to order a diploma frame. What are the dimensions of the diploma?

The DO diploma is 11” x 14”.

Will the ceremony be recorded or streamed?

No, the ceremony will not be live streamed, but it will be recorded. A link to the recording will be emailed out a week after the ceremony.

PA CLASS OF 2024

Is the Commencement ceremony mandatory?

Yes. The Commencement ceremony is mandatory and is required in order to receive your diploma.

Do my guests need tickets to attend the ceremony?

Yes, each graduate will receive 8 tickets to the ceremony. These tickets will be handed out during regalia pick-up. If you do not need all 8 tickets, please feel free to share them amongst your classmates. Seating is on a first-come first-served basis. Children who do not require a seat, do not need a ticket.

When should I arrive at the venue with my family? I want them to have a good seat.

The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00AM. Students should arrive by 9:15AM to have enough time to put on regalia and line up. The venue doors will open at 9:00AM for guests. All seating is first come, first served.  

Where do I park? Does it cost anything?

There are a few different options for parking. Please note that there are only 200 spots in the garage available for our event, so please carpool if you can.

1. The Cable Center offers garage parking for $10.00 (RVU will cover the cost)

2. Metered street parking in front of the venue

3. Light Rail

When will I receive my diploma?

Diplomas will be mailed after the ceremony. Please allow 2-4 weeks for delivery.

Will the ceremony be recorded or streamed?

The ceremony will be recorded and a link will be sent to each student after the ceremony.

Will my name be read aloud as I cross the stage?

Yes, a member of the PA Faculty will read names as graduates cross the stage.

How do I order announcements?

Each graduate will receive a link to order regalia. This link can also be used to order announcements through Herff Jones. 

When and where is the Regalia Pick Up?

Regalia pick-up will take place on Thursday, November 14th at 9:15AM in Auditorium II directly after the rehearsal.

Is graduation week mandatory?

Yes. All graduates are mandated to be on campus on Thursday, November 16th from 9:30 – 11:30 AM. During this time, graduates will pick-up regalia, take photos, and attend the rehearsal.

Will my family be able to take pictures of me as I cross the stage?

Yes. All graduates must attend the activities on campus on Thursday, November 14th. During this time, graduates will pick-up regalia, take photos, and attend the rehearsal. 

What is the difference between Commencement and graduation

White Coat Ceremony FAQs

COM CLASS OF 2028

Where and when is the White Coat Ceremony?

The RVUCOM-CO Class of 2028 White Coat Ceremony will be held at ACC Legacy Campus (10035 S Peoria St.) on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 9:00 – 10:30 AM.

How many tickets will I receive for the ceremony?

Due to space constraints, all incoming students will receive 4 tickets to the ceremony. Tickets will be required upon entry and seating is first-come-first-served.

Will small children need a ticket to attend the ceremony?

Any guests who will be seated in a chair will need a ticket. If babies or small children are seated on the laps of their parents, they do not need a ticket.

How can my family get up to date White Coat Ceremony information?

Please refer them to the RVU website.

Is the White Coat Ceremony mandatory?

Yes. The White Coat Ceremony is mandatory for new students only. If you are repeating your first year, you will have the option of attending the ceremony.

Who will coat me at the ceremony?

Each student will be coated by a member of the Rocky Vista University faculty.

When and where will I pick up my white coat?

White Coat pick-up will take place on campus during Orientation Week. Schedules are still being finalized and will be sent out as the date nears.

Is there a rehearsal for the White Coat Ceremony?

Who will coat me during the ceremony?

PA students will all be coated by a member of the PA Faculty.

The Induction Ceremony will last about 45 minutes.

Is the Induction Ceremony mandatory?

Yes, the ceremony is mandatory.

When will I receive my white coat?

White coats will be distributed before the ceremony.

Is there a rehearsal?

Yes, the rehearsal will happen in person before the ceremony.

Will my guests be able to take pictures of me as I cross the stage?

Yes, your guests will be able to take photos of you. A professional photographer will also take photos of you as you are coated and a link will be sent out after the ceremony.

Does my family need tickets to attend the ceremony?

Event parking will be in the South Lot (Student Parking) and all guests will enter through the south doors on the 2nd floor. A member of the Security team will be onsite to direct your guests to the auditorium.

Where and when is the White Coat Ceremony?

The RVUCOM-UT Class of 2028 White Coat Ceremony will be held at The Dixie Convention Center (1835 S. Convention Center Dr.) on Monday, July 15, 2024, from 1:00 – 2:30 PM.

How many tickets will I receive for the ceremony?

Due to space constraints, all incoming students will receive 7 tickets to the ceremony. Tickets will be required upon entry and seating is first-come-first-served.

Will small children need a ticket to attend the ceremony?
