What could you do this year to contribute to RVU’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity? To contribute to RVU’s commitment to DEI, I first want to learn more about the programs that RVU has to offer. I always want to be a part of the conversation, I think DEI is swept under the rug a lot of the time and it is a big piece of medicine. This starts as individuals, if you are educated about it then you become more away of it and it gets ignored less. As a first year, I would really just challenge myself to get more involved with it and begin to learn a little more about it.

I believe in being friendly and inclusive with everyone. Most of my deepest friendships and favorite collaborations come from people and personalities that are different from my own.

I can make sure to ask the right questions while making sure that everyone’s point of view is taken into account.

Creating an open and safe environment to have a discussion about DEI. These topics can be difficulty and “awkward” however, if we can open our minds to just listen and have a safe space where these discussions happen I believe that is one way I can contribute to RVU’s commitment to DEI

I can contribute to RVU’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity by reaching out and getting to know many people, especially those who may not come from the same background. I can also be aware of my actions and how they may negatively impact others.

This year, I could educate myself further on how to become a better ally within the DEI space through reading some more in depth literature. I would like to know more about the medical exploitation that happened throughout the history of the United States to better understand the injustice that many were faced with.
