The CARE Team will address every report brought to the committee. A referral to the Associate/ Assistant Dean of Students for disciplinary action may also be taken. However, you may not be privy to the outcome of an investigation based on factors involved and student’s privacy.
CARE Team
CARE Team Mission
The mission of the Rocky Vista University Campus Advocacy, Response, and Education (CARE) Team is to identify students who are displaying concerning behavior. The CARE Team facilitates connecting those students with campus or community resources in an effort to assist in their wellbeing and academic success.
The purpose of the CARE Team is:
- To receive and gather information regarding potentially harmful or disruptive behavior with regard to safety and rights of others and to minimize the disruption to the University community.
- To collaboratively recommend preventative and purposeful individualize interventions to ensure a safe environment where learning, personal growth, and professional development can occur.
- To follow up to determine if further intervention is needed, evaluate effectiveness of intervention strategies, and make further recommendations as warranted.
When to Refer
What types of behavior should be referred to the CARE Team?
Anyone with concerns about the social, emotional, or behavioral wellbeing of a student should notify the CARE (Campus Advocacy, Response, and Education) Team. Someone from the CARE team will reach out to provide the student with support and resources, if applicable. A representative from the CARE team will reach out to the reporter to ask a few follow-up questions. This form goes to the Rocky Vista University CARE Team during normal business hours. At this time, it is not monitored after hours, on weekends, or on University holidays. The CARE team will acknowledge the receipt of the report within 1 business day. RVU has security officers available to respond to immediate concerns.
Disruptive Behaviors on campus or online, such as, but not limited to:
- Poor personal hygiene that leads to classroom disruption or lack of focus.
- Use of alcohol or other substances in class. Attending class while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
- Showing up to class in strange clothing (e.g., dressed in military gear when not in the military, Halloween costumes when it is not Halloween, etc.)
Dangerous Behaviors on campus or online, such as, but not limited to:
- Bullying behavior focused on students in the classroom.
- Communicating a threat to the professor or another student.
- Prolonged, non-verbal passive-aggressive behavior, such as sitting with arms crossed, glaring or staring at professor, refusing to speak or respond to questions or directives.
Can I refer misconduct and academic integrity violations to the CARE Team?
Yes, you may refer these student issues to the CARE Team if the issue also includes a lower-level behavioral concern. The concern will then be evaluated and documented by the CARE team and communicated to the appropriate stakeholders such as the Associate/Assistant Dean of Students, Dean, or Program Director.
If immediate concerns are present about the health or safety of a student of the RVU community, call security dispatch at Colorado: 720-875-2892; Utah: (435) 222-1300; Montana: TBA. If there is an active emergency, call 911 immediately.
