Rocky Vista University Welcomes Inaugural Provost, Dr. David Forstein

[November 9, 2020 – Parker, CO] Rocky Vista University is pleased to announce David Forstein, DO, as Provost. Dr. Forstein is the Inaugural Provost for the University and will provide oversight and ensure excellence for all of the University’s programs.

Before joining RVU, Dr. Forstein was Dean and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine – Harlem Campus. He has a long history as a medical educator, having served as Residency Director and Associate Professor of OB/GYN at the University of South Caroline School of Medicine and as a Clerkship Director at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). He was the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations for the department of OB/GYN at the Greenville Health System, directing the clinical service as the largest provider for women’s health care in South Carolina.

Dr. Forstein has also held clinical faculty appointments at Clemson University School of Health Research, Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Jefferson Medical College, PCOM, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine. A widely published author, Dr. Forstein has worked on a number of research projects, including a recent National Institute of Health-funded study.

A leader in the osteopathic medical world, Dr. Forstein is currently the Chair of the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation and serves on the Board of Directors of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, where he is a member of the Executive Committee and Chair of the Committee Requirements. He is a former president of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologist (ACOBG) and former chair of the Medical Education Foundation of the ACOBG.

A graduate of PCOM, Dr. Forstein completed his residency in OB/GYN at the Hospital of PCOM and a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Pennsylvania Hospital. He is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in both OB/GYN and reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

As a practicing reproduction endocrinologist, Dr. Forstein “learned that the best part of my day was the time spent with medical students and residents. Teaching them and including them in the care of my patients made my day.” In that moment, he realized he wanted to pursue a career in full-time academic medicine. “That [was] nearly 20 years ago and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Working with students, faculty and staff, and helping to further the health profession fields has made for a wonderful career so far.”

“Rocky Vista University continues its transformation from a singular College of Osteopathic Medicine to a leading Health Sciences University,” said Clinton E. Adams, DO, FACHE, President and CEO of RVU. “This cannot be effectively achieved, however, without a significant investment in leadership—leadership that has broad experience, national recognition, and most important, alignment with the seven guiding principles and core values of the University: Integrity, Compassion, Excellence, Collegiality, Diversity, Service and Innovation. If you know Dr. Forstein, you understand why the [University] is so proud and fortunate to have him join the RVU family.”

Dr. Forstein and his wife have three grown children: two in college and one who resides in New York. They also have two dogs: a 13-year-old lab/chow mix and a 3-year-old English cream Golden Retriever.
