[April 7, 2017 – Parker, CO] Rocky Vista University (RVU) is pleased to announce that Mark A. Baker, DO, has been selected to provide the keynote address the University’s 2017 commencement ceremony.
Dr. Baker is a board-certified physician in diagnostic radiology. He works at Western Radiology and is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology at University of North Texas Health Science Center. Additionally, he is a member of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association and the American Osteopathic College of Radiology.
Dr. Baker will become the 121st President of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) in July. “This is a critical junction in the growth and prominence of the AOA,” said Clinton E. Adams, DO, FACHE, President and CEO of RVU. “Osteopathic Medicine is experiencing rapid growth, as seen by over 100,000 osteopathic physicians and students preparing to launch into the Single Accreditation System with the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medicine Education (ACGME), thereby uniting all osteopathic and allopathic residency training programs in the country.”
“Dr. Baker’s long-term leadership in healthcare policy, politics, and education will serve the AOA well,” Dr. Adams continued, “as he tackles the unknown issues facing a new administration. He is a friend, a colleague, a gentle person—and the right leader at the right time.”
The commencement ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 16th at 4:30 pm at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver. RVU will award degrees to its graduates from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the inaugural class of the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program. The commissioning officer for military graduates will be Brigadier General Jerome P. Limoge, Jr., Assistant Adjutant General of the Colorado National Guard.
RVU continues its trend of placing 100% of its graduating class into residencies (osteopathic, allopathic, and military). The top specialties graduates will be entering are Internal Medicine (22%), Family Medicine (21%), Emergency Medicine (9%), and General Surgery (8%).
