RVU Announces 2016 Commencement Speaker

[April 14, 2016] Rocky Vista University (RVU) is pleased to announce that Boyd Buser, DO, FACOFP, has been selected to address the Class of 2016 at the University’s commencement ceremony.

Dr. Buser is a board-certified physician in osteopathic manipulative medicine and family medicine. He is the Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean at University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Buser has previously served as president of the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO). He has received several awards including the A.T. Still Medallion of Honor from the AAO and the Santucci Award for outstanding contributions to the mission of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners.

Dr. Buser is the osteopathic visionary of the 21st century,” said Clinton E. Adams, DO, FACHE, President and CEO of RVU. “His exemplary career as an educator and academic leader pushed him to the forefront of the creation of the Single Accreditation System we are implementing with the ACGME. The medical historians will point to Dr. Buser’s tenacity, diplomacy, and belief in the osteopathic responsibility to reshape graduate medical education by embracing the opportunity to become partners, leaders, and educators in the Residency Review Committees, RRC, and the Governing Board of the ACGME. [He is] a person I am so proud to call a friend and a colleague.”

The commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 21st at 4:30 pm at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver. One hundred fifty-four students from RVU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine will receive their diplomas and begin their careers as osteopathic physicians. The commissioning officer for military graduates will be Vice Admiral Matthew L. Nathan, MD, 37th Surgeon General of the Navy and Chief of the Navy’s Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (retired).

RVU continues its trend of placing 100% of its graduating class into residencies (osteopathic, allopathic, and military). The top specialties graduates will be entering are Emergency Medicine (11%), Family Medicine (19%), Internal Medicine (16%), and Pediatrics (10%).
