HealthONE's Family Medicine Residency Receives Top Score Among Programs Nationwide

[August 20, 2019] HealthONE’s Family Medicine Residency Program received the highest scores on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s (ACGME) annual survey. The survey – completed each year by residents and fellows – is part of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) Healthcare’s evaluation of its twenty-four family residency programs nationwide. The residency program is one of several collaborations between Rocky Vista University’s (RVU) Center for Medical Education Excellence (CMEE) and HealthONE.

Every year from January through April, the HCA’s family medicine residencies are surveyed by the ACGME to ensure compliance with guidelines for clinical experience and education, faculty evaluation, educational content, work environment, patient safety, and teamwork. Reports are generated that aggregate the survey data to provide an anonymous comparison.

“It is a great honor for our program to have the highest scores amongst all of the HCA Healthcare family medicine residencies,” said Dominick Ruybal, DO, a resident at HealthONE. “It is a testament to the countless hours of hard work that our faculty and residents have put in to make this a top residency program in the country. I know that this recognition is going to be the first of many that our program will receive as we continue to move forward and continue to strive for excellence.”

The program, located at HealthONE/Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colorado, is focused on developing weekly evidence-based didactic sessions on medical topics, procedural and practice skills, journal clubs, and physician wellness. Each resident has a mentor to support their progress and assist in scholarly activity, and faculty are trained and certified in musculoskeletal and obstetrical ultrasound. Additional tracks, such as sports medicine and hospitalist, help tailor the residency experience to each graduate’s interests.

“We are delighted to have the highest score and will continue to work to improve our program in every way possible,” said Kathryn Vidlock, MD, Program Director of Family Medicine Residency Program. “We are extremely thankful to have support from both RVU and HCA.”

CMEE is dedicated to providing academic support and oversight to the HealthONE Family Medicine Residency program and ensure the highest quality of training for residents, many of whom are graduates from RVU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.
