Bio

James M Small MD PhD FCAP joined the faculty at Rocky Vista University, Colorado campus, in 2018. He is Director of Clinical Career Advising, as well as Professor of Pathology and Microbiology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. After growing up in the Denver area, he attended Colorado College and then Duke University for his MD and PhD in Microbiology and Immunology. After residency in Anatomic and Clinical pathology at the University of Utah, he worked as a pathologist in academic and private hospitals in Las Vegas, Nevada and Denver, Colorado. He received the Lifetime Service Award from the College of American Pathologists in 2008. He finds his second career at Rocky Vista, teaching and advising, to be quite meaningful and rewarding. He has been married since 1981 and has three daughters and five grandsons, and enjoys gardening, fishing, and hanging out with the family.
