Dr. Joseph Stasio Receives RVU’s Presidential Award of Excellence [July 13, 2017] Rocky Vista University (RVU) is pleased to announce that Joseph Stasio, DO, FACOFP, was awarded the Presidential Award of Excellence. The Presidential Award of Excellence was established in 2017 to honor and recognize the faculty members who consistently demonstrate excellence in the scholarly activity of teaching, service, and research. While the award is bestowed by the University president, the recipient is chosen by his or her fellow faculty members. As the first recipient of this award, Dr. Stasio has set the bar high for others to follow. He is the Chair of the Primary Care Medicine Department at RVU, as well as Professor of Family Medicine. He is involved with multiple committees, both locally and nationally: Student Progress, Admissions, Case Development, Curriculum, and Benefits. He has been integral to the University accreditation process, including working with the Higher Learning Commission and the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. He serves as National Faculty for the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners and is involved with the Rocky Mountain Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institution. RVU’s Institute of Medical and Surgical Simulation Receives Accreditation by ACS [July 12, 2017] Rocky Vista University (RVU) is pleased to announce that its top-of-the-line simulation center has received reaccreditation as a Comprehensive Education Institute. The center, named the Institute of Medical and Surgical Simulation, was subject to a site visit, application review, and performance report by the Accreditation Review Committee of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). While RVU previously received accreditation for the Surgical Simulation Center by ACS, this designation as a Comprehensive Education Institute is considered an “upgrade” by the accrediting organization. ربح المال This designation allows RVU to deliver all manner of accredited simulation programs in the future. betrally To date, RVU is the only osteopathic college to receive this accreditation by ACS. Additionally, it is the only medical school in the Mountain West region to hold this accreditation. RVU Professor Appointed to Special Committee by DOD [June 20, 2017] Anthony LaPorta, MD, FACS, Course Director for the Military Medicine Track and Professor of Clinical Surgery at Rocky Vista University (RVU) was appointed to the Defense Health Board Trauma and Injury Subcommittee by the Department of Defense (DOD). Members of this subcommittee will provide advice on matters pertaining to DOD trauma and injury, including methods for prevention, recognition, clinical management, and treatment. They will then report their recommendations to the Defense Health Board for deliberation and discussion. As a leading expert in simulation, Dr. LaPorta will help design trauma care for use throughout the military. “It was humbling to once again realize that I have the opportunity to help those who are literally putting their lives on the line for us,” said Dr. LaPorta. RVU Appoints Michael K. Young to its Executive Advisory Council [June 9, 2017] Rocky Vista University (RVU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael K. Young to its Executive Advisory Council for Southern Utah. Mr. Young, a graduate of Harvard Law School, currently serves as the President of Texas A&M, a position he has held since May 1, 2015.  His distinguished career includes previous positions as President and tenured Professor of Law at the University of Washington, as well as President and Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Utah. Under his leadership, Utah raised its stature nationally and internationally, becoming the nation’s top university in the number of new companies generated from university research.  The University also built over a million square feet of academic and research space during his tenure as President. RVU Celebrates Commencement Ceremony [May 31, 2018] Rocky Vista University (RVU) celebrated the graduation of 150 students in its College of Osteopathic Medicine (RVUCOM) program, as well as 26 students in its Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (MSBS) program. The ceremony, which took place at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver, was held on May 19th. The Very Reverend Archimandrite Christodoulos G. Papadeas of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America delivered the Invocation. RVU President and CEO Clinton E. Baker, DO, has been selected to provide the keynote address the University’s 2017 commencement ceremony. Dr. Baker is a board-certified physician in diagnostic radiology. He works at Western Radiology and is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology at University of North Texas Health Science Center. Additionally, he is a member of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association and the American Osteopathic College of Radiology. RVU Hosts Colorado Ultrafest [April 7, 2017] Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine (RVUCOM) collaborated with the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CUSOM), as well as the Colorado Ultrasound Group (USIG) to host the second annual Colorado Ultrafest on Saturday, March 18th. RVU Celebrates New Campus in Ivins, Utah with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony [August 4, 2017] After 16 months of construction, Rocky Vista University (RVU) has officially opened its new campus in Ivins, Utah: Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine – Southern Utah (RVUCOM-SU). As the first osteopathic medical school in Utah, this is a significant achievement and will bring more physicians to the area in the future. On July 14th, a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held to celebrate the completion of the RVUCOM-SU building, attended by RVU’s Board of Trustees, the Executive Advisory Council, faculty and staff from both campuses, contractors, and key officials who have been instrumental to the success of this project.
