March 11, 2020 | Curriculum Delivery Change Dear Students, In an effort to minimize exposure during this recent coronavirus outbreak, the COM, MSBS, and PA programs have decided to move to all online course content and assessments. This will start Monday March 16. It is likely to continue through the end of the semester, but the Program Directors and Preclinical Dean will reevaluate the situation on April 17 and adjust as necessary. While the university is not shutdown, we ask that students do not come to campus. The purpose of this is to minimize exposure. Program Specific information will follow in a separate email in the next two days. Videos will be available on mediasite and/or your student calendar. Information on how to access will be sent when appropriate. Students can expect communication from OOT in the next week regarding Secure Exams. March 10, 2020 | COVID-19 Update Dear RVU Community: I understand that there are a lot of questions surrounding how RVU is responding to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation and want to assure you that we are being proactive and putting processes in place to ensure the health and well being of our university and community. As a follow-up to the Communicable Diseases Policy & Action Plan sent to the RVU Community on March 4, I am providing the following update: Current Status: Confirmed cases of COVID-19 are increasing internationally and within the US. As of this writing, there have been 12 confirmed cases in Colorado and 2 in Utah. RVU Action: The RVU Response Team has been activated as of last week. Rocky Vista University Recognized as a Top 10 Military Friendly School [February 13, 2020] RVU has been awarded the Military Friendly® School Gold Award for its exemplary military educational programs and veteran initiatives. Under the non-traditional school category, RVU has been honored with the Gold distinction, which is reserved for schools scoring within the top 10% of their category. RVU ranked 3rd of all schools in its category, receiving the additional Top Ten School designation. The Military Friendly® awards provide a competitive view of how an organization is performing compared to similar organizations. To be considered for the award, schools must first receive the designation of Military Friendly® from VIQTORY, a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business. Schools are scored and ranked based on several benchmarks including graduation rate, job placement rate, and armed forces tuition assistance funding. These rankings set the standard for the colleges demonstrating positive employment and education outcomes for veterans and their families. Pioneering Digital Health Track Welcomes First Class of Students [January 31, 2020] Students at Rocky Vista University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (RVUCOM) with an interest in digital health are now enrolled in the new Digital Health Track. The advent of digital health – the integration of technology into healthcare to improve a patient’s wellbeing – has created a need for physicians who are knowledgeable about its emerging tools. “[RVUCOM] is a pioneer of digital health education,” said Cole Zanetti, DO, MPH, and Regan Stiegmann, DO ‘14, MPH, Co-Directors of the Track on RVU’s Colorado and Southern Utah locations, respectively. “Being the only medical institution in the country longitudinally training in digital health, we are setting a higher bar for medical education worldwide. تعليم البوكر ” The Digital Health Track will allow students to effectively solve complex healthcare challenges through the utilization of technology and applications. RVU Honors Local Preceptors at Colorado Springs Reception [December 2, 2019]RVU hosted a Preceptor Reception on Tuesday, November 19th which honored the preceptors who volunteer their time to teach RVU’s osteopathic medical students. Preceptors provide opportunities for students to see patients in a supervised clinical setting, enhancing their skills and guiding their professional and personal growth. العاب بوكر للكبار Several preceptors were honored during the ceremony, which took place at the Colorado Springs Marriott. Paul Dubé, MD, and John Gerald Beauman, MD, were honored for reaching their five-year service milestone. Alexios-Clark Christou Constantinides, DO; Michele Su Kem Hor, MD; and Tiffany Willard, MD, were honored for ten years of service. Not present at the event were Lorain Carroll, MD, and Brian Leininger, MD. RVU Adjunct Faculty Member Named Chief Executive Officer of Billings Clinic Scott Ellner, DO, MPH, MHCM, FACS, has been selected by the Billings Clinic Board of Directors as the next Chief Executive Officer of Billings Clinic. Billings Clinic is the largest health system serving Montana, Wyoming, and the western Dakotas. He will assume the role in January 2020. Dr. Ellner is a board-certified physician specializing in general surgery and currently serves as Group President for Physician Alignment at Centura Health in Colorado and western Kansas, overseeing a healthcare system that meets the needs of over a half million people each year. RVU Hosts Annual Military Appreciation Ceremony [November 15, 2019] Rocky Vista University (RVU) hosted its annual Military Appreciation Ceremony on each campus. The ceremonies honored and celebrated the military service people in the RVU community, including future military physicians and honored guests. Guest Speakers Following the posting of the colors by the Color Guard (comprised of RVU military students), guests were welcomed by Clinton E. Research Day at RVU [November 14, 2019] Every year, the RVU community celebrates and showcases the innovative research endeavors of students, faculty, and staff. In keeping with Colorado campus’ “Biomarkers for Alzheimer’s” theme, Christina Coughlan, PhD, Senior Faculty Research Instructor for the Department of Neurology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center, presented research focused on finding biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and screening drugs for their ability to inhibit the development and progression of AD. RVU Honors Local Preceptors at Reception [October 22, 2019] RVU hosted a Preceptor Reception on Thursday, October 17 which honored the preceptors who volunteer their time to teach the next generation of physicians. Preceptors are an integral part of medical education, imparting knowledge and clinical skills necessary for students to become excellent physicians. During a student’s third and fourth years in medical school, they complete rotations in which they practice with patients under the supervision of preceptors. Several preceptors were honored during the ceremony, which took place at the Embassy Suites Hotel Conference Center in Loveland, Colorado: Amanda Harding, MD, of ZZAP Pediatrics; Steve Haskew, MD, of Hope Light Clinic; Ronald Malm, DO, and Evan Norby, DO, of University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne; and Asa Ware, MD, of Northern Colorado Family Medicine. The White Coat Ceremony is a medical school tradition that welcomes new students as they embark on their journey towards practice in the medical field. Keynote speaker Mark Briesacher, MD, spoke to the students about the challenges they will face in healthcare and the importance of always putting their patients first. “Care for them, serve them, [and] listen to them.
