December 4, 2020 | CRT Update Dear RVU Family, We hope that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving. As expected after the holiday, COVID cases continue to surge. The Utah Department of Health reported a seven-day average of 2,611 new positive test results per day. The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) reported 4,133 new cases last week.  Since our last email, RVU had 11 pre-clinical students, 10 clinical students, and 2 employees test positive for COVID-19, with 5 students still awaiting their test results. Now more than ever, it is critical that everyone remain extra vigilant. Updates for this week are as follows: Settings Governor’s Office Briefing: On Tuesday of this week, CO Governor Polis provided a virtual COVID-19 update. He was joined by Dr. Anthony Fauci, M.D., National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director.  View the video here  or read the transcript here. Rocky Vista University Celebrates Graduation of Inaugural Physician Assistant Class [November 23, 2020 – Parker, CO] On Friday, November 13th, Rocky Vista University (RVU) celebrated its inaugural graduation of 31 physician assistant students.  RVU hosted a virtual commencement ceremony during which a pre-recorded video was distributed to the graduates for them to share with friends and loved ones. Graduation day was a milestone for the PA students in more ways than one: the PA Class of 2020 graduated from RVU as the inaugural class from a program that is the first of its kind in the nation. سباق حصان RVU’s PA program uses an innovative, competency-based medical education (CBME) model that takes learning from knowledge acquisition to application, allows for multiple measures of performance, and assesses performance against a fixed set of predetermined criteria. During the virtual ceremony, Cathy Ruff, PA-C, Director of the PA Program, commended the class for being innovators at RVU. November 20, 2020 | CRT Update Dear RVU Family, COVID-19 cases continue to rise at high rates, in Colorado increasing 24.29% over last week and 15.91% in Utah.  Since our last email, RVU had 5 pre-clinical students and 5 clinical students test positive with a half dozen students still awaiting their test results. Updates for this week include: CO Moves to Level Red: The Tri-County (Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas Counties) Health Department along with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has moved to Level Red (Severe Risk). Click here for info on the color levels. Safe on RVU Campus: Although cases are surging in CO and UT, please know that the RVU screening and safety protocols will keep you safe when you are on campus. The chances of you acquiring the virus on campus is extremely low because we have implemented the same PPE protocols as health care providers on the front line. RVU Hosts Appreciation Ceremony to Honor Military Service People [November 16, 2020 – Parker, CO] Rocky Vista University (RVU) hosted its 10th Annual Military Appreciation Ceremony on Friday, November 6th. The ceremony – held virtually over Zoom and hosted live for students, faculty, and staff from the Parker, Colorado and Ivins, Utah campuses – honored and celebrated the military service people in the RVU community, including future military physicians and veterans. The ceremony began with an introduction by 2nd Lieutenant Dustin Halverson (Air Force), OMS II, and 1st Lieutenant Sean Lynch (Army) OMS II, Presidents of the RVU Chapter of the Student Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (SAMOPS) for the RVU-SU and RVU-CO campuses respectively. The Posting of Colors, a traditional flag ceremony, was then performed by Air Force Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps Cadets from Dixie High School, located in St. George, Utah: Caryn Krafczyk; Cavin McConkie; Jesus Ruiz; Jason Vasquez Hernandez; and Osmar Vasquez Hernandez. Singing the Star-Spangled Banner was vocalist Vanessa Adams, OMS II. Thomas N.
