Please submit questions for the Q&A by Tuesday, June 8th at 5:00 PM to hr@rvu.edu. Vaccines Reaching 85% compliance will permit us to move to Phase Green (and fewer restrictions) prior to July 1. Current compliance of employees and students is as follows: If you haven’t received your vaccination… Students and employees who still aren’t vaccinated must start that process quickly as we are nearing the deadline for compliance.  To find a location near you, search vaccines.gov, text your zip code to 438829, or call 1-800-232-0233. By Kristen Kaiser | May 24, 2021 | Comments Off on Letter from the Provost | Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Update

Letter from the Provost | Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Update [May 19, 2021 – Parker, CO] Dear RVUCOM community, The University is committed to create a safe and welcoming environment where all can thrive. This is a commitment that we are taking very seriously and have been working diligently to making DEI an ongoing key strategic focus. The four Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force (DEITF) groups (Community, Curriculum, Communication, and Climate) completed their work at the end of March culminating in formal presentations to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Council (DEIAC). Following these presentations, the DEIAC met to further discuss the proposals and recommendations and determine next steps. This was the first of many meetings that will take place over the next several months to work through all of the recommendations provided. After their initial review of the DEITF recommendations, the DEIAC is committed to the following first steps: Community Commitment to supporting mini-medical schools or other programs on RVU campuses to introduce underrepresented groups to medical professions. Curriculum Commitment to including DEI on the University-wide Climate Survey that will be administered in the Fall of 2021. Commitment from the RVU Board of Trustees to provide University-wide anti-racism […]

By Kristen Kaiser | May 17, 2021 | Comments Off on RVU Professor LaPorta Awarded with CPEP Martha Illige Award

RVU Professor LaPorta Awarded with CPEP Martha Illige Award [May 17, 2021 – Parker, CO] Rocky Vista University (RVU) would like to congratulate Anthony J. LaPorta, MD, Director of RVU’s Military Medicine Program and Professor of Clinical Surgery, on receiving the Center for Personalized Education for Physicians’ (CPEP) Martha Illige Award, which recognizes individuals who have helped improve the clinical skills of CPEP’s participants and, ultimately, the care of their patients. Dr. LaPorta was recognized with the award at CPEP’s 30th anniversary celebration on April 28th for his work in the development of high-fidelity surgical simulations in collaboration with RVU and Strategic Operations, Inc. (STOPS). During his acceptance video, Dr. LaPorta noted that open surgery is not something taught to a high enough degree. “I’m very humbled by being able to help develop the open surgical simulator that has started to educate senior surgery residents and trauma surgeons, and allow us to evaluate their skills and return their skills.”  In addition, Dr. LaPorta was recognized for this advocacy of CPEP’s work. “[Dr. LaPorta] really put forth an incredible effort in exposing us to a number of individuals who were both locally and nationally renowned in the simulation world,” said Elizabeth […]

May 7 2021 | CRT Update May 07, 2021 Dear RVU Family: Nationally, COVID-19 cases have risen 2.18% from last week. Reported positive cases in Colorado have increased 1.30% over last week and cases in Utah are up .56%. Many state and local COVID-related health orders are being softened or lifted as more people become vaccinated. In Utah, COVID health restrictions are being lifted as the state reached its benchmarks (14-day case rate less than 191 per 100,000 people, the seven-day average of COVID-19 intensive care unit usage under 15%, and 1,633,000 prime doses of the COVID-19 vaccine allocated to the state). On Sunday, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis extended the state’s face mask mandate for another 30 days but loosened restrictions for groups of people vaccinated against COVID-19. Under Colorado’s new order, people gathering indoors in groups of 10 or more are no longer required to wear masks if at least 80% of the attendees are vaccinated against the virus. While we are definitely headed in the right direction, we need to continue to do all we can to ensure that we continue to protect ourselves and our loved ones until more people are vaccinated. For information on how to […]
